What the timestamp converter is for
Computers often store time as a Unix timestamp: the number of seconds since 1 January 1970 at midnight UTC. This converter shows the current Unix time live and turns any timestamp into a readable date, in UTC and in your own time zone, with its ISO 8601 form and how long ago or ahead it is. It recognises timestamps in seconds, milliseconds and microseconds, and it also works the other way round: type a date like 2026-01-01 12:00 to get its timestamp. Everything is calculated in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
What is the current Unix timestamp?
It's shown live at the top of this page, in seconds. It goes up by one every second.
Is a Unix timestamp in UTC?
Yes. A timestamp is the same everywhere; only how it is shown depends on the time zone. That's why the converter shows both UTC and your local time.
What is the year 2038 problem?
Older systems store Unix time as a signed 32-bit number, which runs out on 19 January 2038 at 03:14:07 UTC. Current systems use 64-bit numbers and are not affected.
